We have a new devlog about Slippery Flippers: Episode One: Amulet of the Gods where we sat down with Kristi, the writer of the game, so she could tell you more about the characters.

Hello, everyone! I’m Kristi, the writer of Slippery Flippers, back with another devlog! Last time, I talked about the story and how the world in this game was conceptualized. Today, I wanted to tell you a bit about the characters in Slippery Flippers: Episode One: Amulet of the Gods!

Orlando Banks

Species: Penguin

Occupation: Thief, Former Farmer

Every crew has a leader, and this group’s leader is Orlando Banks! Formerly a farmer and cowboy on Pluto, Orlando wanted more; he craved for some excitement in his boring life, so he and his childhood friend Chip stole a spaceship (now known as the S.S. Trident) and left. The thrill that he felt sneaking into the facility with his friend and getting out of there with the stolen ship gave him the exact feeling that he was missing in his life. So, Orlando decided to become a thief! However, he does miss his family and feels horrible for leaving them behind like he did, with only a note as his final goodbye…

Orlando is smart; otherwise, he wouldn’t be a renowned thief. But he’s cocky, and sometimes his ego clouds his judgment. There were a couple of times he nearly got caught when it was just him and Chip. After nearly getting arrested for the fifth time, his friend Chip convinced him to form a team who could help perform heists with him.

Veda Cobalt

Species: Axolotl

Occupation: Thief and Fashion Designer

Before turning to a life of crime, Veda was a fashion designer who loved to win. Though in life you can’t always win, so when Veda came in second place in a fashion competition, she lost it. Instead of taking the win like a champ, she stole the prize money and the winning dress. Shortly after that incident, she robbed rich men of their clothes and money. Honestly? Iconic.

Two years prior to the game’s events, Orlando met Veda and recruited her, though given how much they bicker every day, it’s a bit of a surprise how he even managed to recruit her at all. Her role in the team is to make disguises so the group can try to get in and out without being spotted. She’s not great with hand-to-hand combat, but she’ll use her ray gun and Chip’s various gadgets to help her get out of a tight spot.

Walter Luk

Species: Polar Bear

Occupation: Thief and Art Enthusiast

Walter Luk joined the team shortly after Veda. This quiet polar bear doesn’t say much, thinking actions speak louder than words. Though if you ask him about art (especially fine art) or classical music, you may never hear the end of this seemingly adorable bear’s rambles!

Orlando met him at a bar after a mission. The two actually didn’t interact until a drunk bumped into Walter, who was reading a magazine that showed off street art. The man spilled his drink on Walter’s reading material, and instead of apologizing, the man doubled down, telling the polar bear that he shouldn’t “be reading in a place like this.”

You might be asking what happened to that man… Well, I won’t say. But after what happened, Orlando recruited him.

Chip Scampi

Species: Krill Fish

Occupation: Get-away Driver & Techie

Chip is Orlando’s friend from childhood. After hearing that his friend wanted to get something more out of his life, Chip actually thought of a plan where they would steal a ship. Chip worked at the facility, so he knew everyone’s schedules, and when they would sneak in, he would hack into their security system and mess with the cameras. Thanks to Chip’s wits, the two were able to get away with very little fuss. Of course, there were some bumps—they weren’t master thieves yet! But that’s a tale for Orlando or Chip to tell.

Chip isn’t physically fit and can’t fight whatsoever, so Orlando decided it would be best if he stayed on the ship. Chip, wanting to still help out the team, put his brain to use and started devising gadgets. He also hacks into the cameras to help the crew out. Though he still feels like isn’t doing enough… Poor Chip…

Inspector Luca

Species: Leopard Seal

Occupation: Cop/Detective

Our thieves need an adversary, so here he is! Meet Inspector Luca, a cop who has been chasing Orlando ever since he started his shenanigans. Luca came very close to arresting Orlando prior to Walter and Veda joining the team—though “coming close to” doesn’t really matter to his co-workers and the higher-ups at the precinct. That’s why in this game, another cop will be joining him, whether he likes it or not.

Assistant Chief Riggs

Species: Great White Shark

Occupation: Assistant Chief

Riggs is a high-ranking officer who intimidates anyone he’s in the same room with. Not much is known about Riggs, since this will be the first time Orlando and his crew meet him. I won’t spoil him too much, but I will say this: he lives by the saying “The ends justify the means.” Take that however you like.
